RAGBRAI skims through Wright County on ‘Gravel Day’

Most residents may not have even noticed, but the iconic Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) made its way through a bit of the county last Tuesday. This is likely a little-known fact since the Wright County part of the ride was literally off the beaten path and part of an optional gravel route.

Clubs and organizations add to quality of life in Clarion

Like everything, Clarion’s clubs and organizations were also affected by COVID-19 to varying degrees. Each one continues to look for your support. Some readers might consider joining a club or organization. Or support them as they serve the community with their outreaches and/or fundraisers.

McGrath named to State Board of Health

At the Monday meeting of the Wright County Board of Supervisors, the board congratulated Wright County Board of Health Director Sandy McGrath. She was recently appointed by the governor to the State Board of Health. McGrath explained that that board works to inform and give recommendations to the governor and other policymakers on a state and local level. They have been very active in the COVID response over the last 18 months. Chairman Karl Helgevold said, “This is quite the honor for Sandy and very well-deserved.”

Vying for the little title

For the past several years, the Wright County Fair has been hosting a Little Mr. & Miss contest on opening night after the Fair Parade. Kids from Wright County between the ages of four and seven are encouraged to register an hour before the event begins for the chance to win the title.

Wright County Board of Health focusing on vaccines to combat COVID-19

Wright County Board of Health is aware of conflicting messages regarding mask use with COVID-19. As vaccines are more effective in preventing severe illness from COVID-19, the Wright County Board of health is focusing on vaccination as the more important tool for combating COVID-19.

Vaccinations have been used for decades to combat new viruses that cause serious illness or death. COVID-19 vaccine studies show these vaccines are safe and dramatically reduce the risk of serious illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19.

Wet, Wild and Wacky 4-H Day Camp held July 19

The Wright County 4-H program hosted a day camp for kindergarten and first grade youth titled “Wet, Wild and Wacky” on Monday, July 19 from 8:30am – 4:30pm at the Swimming Pool Park in Clarion. A total of 14 youth spent the day making bubbles, playing water games and, having fun outside in the warm weather. All youth were encouraged in friendly competition throughout the day.

Mystery Bag Cooking brings new meaning to- what’s for dinner?

What’s for dinner? It’s an age-old question that people have faced for hundreds of years. Some days, it’s a challenge, to say the least. But what if you had to prepare a meal with unknown ingredients until you open the bag and begin cooking. Now add to that the fact that you only have 30 minutes to plan it, cook it, and serve it with a nice presentation. If you think that would be hard, how about if we throw in an “odd” ingredient like licorice that must be used somehow...and there’s no water.

A week in the life of the Wright County Fair Queen

Almost every little girl at one point and time dreams about growing up and being a princess one day. Alecia Anderson was one of the lucky ones who actually got a chance at that dream when she was crowned Little Miss Humboldt (they lived in Dakota City at the time), at the age of five. From that time on, she dreamed even bigger dreams...of becoming a Fair queen someday. Her dream came true when she was crowned the 2021 Wright County Fair Queen on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. She got to spend five days reigning over a variety of activities from sun-up to sundown.
