First annual Wright County 4-H Fall Festival to take place in Clarion

Wright County 4-H will be hosting the 1st annual Community Fall Festival at Gazebo Park located at 107 Second St NE in Clarion on Sunday, October 3 from 1-4pm. This event is open to the public and will have several hands-on family friendly activities.

Cruisin for a Cause gearing up for fourth year

If you see some bright lights, smell burning rubber, and hear a lot of screeching tires coming from Dows in a few weekends, don’t be nervous. This is all part of a great event, now in its fourth year. Cruisin for a Cause will be held on Saturday, September 18, and making its way around the area, all in an effort to support the Spina Bifida Association of Iowa.

CGD Homecoming next week will be a “Wild West Fest”

Homecoming festivities are planned for next week September 13-17 at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. This year’s theme will be “Wild West Fest.”

Dress up days, games and fun activities will be taking place throughout the week. A powder puff football game will be Monday evening at the stadium at 7:30 pm. Home sporting events are scheduled, including volleyball games on Tuesday and Thursday and the football game Friday night versus Estherville Lincoln Central.

A bright addition at Lake Cornelia Park

Last week, a fun project was completed at Lake Cornelia Park. The bridge near the quiet water area got a little flare thanks to a new lighting project. Lights were installed on and under the bridge. Even more exciting is the fact that the lights are controlled remotely through the internet and can feature many color combinations. The first night this feature was up and running, Eric Rector, Wright County Conservation Director, explained they set the bridge to be lit up in purple, in honor of Amanda "Mandy" Meier Stracke. Purple was Amanda's favorite color.

Many positions around area up for reelection this November

The upcoming November election may be an ‘off-year’ election when it comes to national topics, but locally, there are many positions up for grabs. And candidates interested in those positions must have their paperwork filed by next week, September 16.

Auditor Ellis encourages Iowans to participate in National Voter Registration Month

Wright County Auditor Ellis joins Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate in encouraging Iowans to celebrate National Voter Registration Month in September by registering to vote. For Iowans who are already registered, it’s important to make sure your information is current. Tuesday, September 28 is National Voter Registration Day.

The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) established September as National Voter Registration Month in 2002 as a non-partisan means of encouraging voter participation and increasing awareness about state requirements and deadlines for voting.

Ewing Funeral Home donates grief resources to local libraries

First observed in 2014, August 30 is National Grief Awareness Day.

In an effort to provide support for the families in our communities who have lost loved ones, the staff of Ewing Funeral Home have promoted and supported programs such as GriefShare and Coffee and Connection.

This year, Ewing Funeral Home made a contribution of books to each of the public libraries in the communities of Britt, Kanawha, Clarion, Belmond and Dows. This donation consisted of six books, with titles for both adults and children, covering a variety of grief topics.

Career Academy students get the chance to meet the new president of ICCC...and enjoy free breakfast pizza

Fifty-one North Central Career Academy of Iowa Central Community College students were welcomed back to school at the Eagle Grove facility by the new ICCC president, Jesse Ulrich, on Friday morning, Aug. 27. He greeted the students with a happy “Hello” and a hot slice of Casey’s breakfast pizza, complete with a bottle of water to wash it down. This has been a tradition at the Career Academy for several years now.

Wright County Charitable Foundation announces Fall 2021 granting period

Wright County Charitable Foundation is calling for non-profit organizations to submit grant applications for consideration during the Fall 2021 grant cycle. The Wright County Charitable Foundation 2021 Fall Grant period opens on September 15^th, applications will be accepted until October 15^th. Late applications will not be considered. Due to health and safety precautions with COVID-19, applicants will have the option to submit applications in person, by mail, or e-mail.
