Theresa Greenfield, newly appointed Iowa director of USDA Rural Development, visited Clarion in December 2021 to announce an $8.1 million low-interest loan for the city.
The money comes through USDA’s Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program and will pay for Clarion’s new water treatment plant, which the council had discussed at many meetings. Some of it also covers improvements to an existing well and a new roof and heater for the pump house.
Greenfield was the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Iowa in 2020. The Clarion plant broke ground in 2023.
