Clarion News Online covers Clarion and the rest of Wright County, Iowa: the county board and the city councils, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows schools, the farm economy, the businesses around the square and the people who keep the towns running. We also follow Iowa and national stories when they reach kitchen tables here.
The site is independent and owned by Kim Sanders, who edits it. We are not part of a chain, and no political party, candidate or advertiser has a say in what runs.
If something is happening in your part of the county that we should look at, write to us at news@clarionnewsonline.com. A short note with a date, a place and a phone number is plenty.
Who writes here
Kim Sanders
Editor and publisher. Kim is the editor and publisher of Clarion News Online. She assigns and edits stories, handles corrections and runs the business side, including advertising.
Jill Ostrander
County, city and schools. Jill covers the boards that set your property taxes and decide which roads get paved: the Wright County supervisors, the Clarion City Council and the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows school board. She reads budgets line by line and tries to explain each vote in terms of what it changes at home. In August she is at the fairgrounds in Eagle Grove.
Curt Hanneman
Business, Finance and Cowboys sports. Curt writes about the businesses on and off the square: openings, expansions, closings and the jobs that come with them, plus household money questions like assessments and utility rates. He also follows the business names readers talk about at the coffee counter, from Des Moines to Wall Street. In winter you will find him in the bleachers at C-G-D basketball games.
Dale Brekke
Farm & Field. Dale covers the land around the towns: planting and harvest progress, grain prices, conservation practices, drainage projects and the wind leases that changed parts of the county. He leans on USDA reports, ISU Extension and the farmers who will talk on the record.
