With school buildings closed in the spring of 2020, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows teachers and staff went to their students instead.
On a Wednesday in early April, a convoy wound its way through the district. At different points it included 75 vehicles, 154 staff members and their families, seven fire trucks, one school bus and a dozen pets. Families stood at the ends of driveways and on street corners in Clarion, Goldfield and Dows to wave as the line of cars went past, many with handmade signs.
Schools across Iowa had been closed by Gov. Kim Reynolds in March, and districts were still working out how to keep kids learning from home. For a few hours, the parade gave students a look at the teachers they had not seen in weeks.
