Board plans for budget hearings next month

The weekly COVID update was short as Public Health Director Sandy McGrath was at a vaccine clinic. Chairman Karl Helgevold who sits on the County Board of Health noted that the county is still receiving 200 doses of vaccine per week. Vaccine clinics for 65 and older residents continue. Helgevold said that Eagle Grove Pharmacy received 100 vaccine doses that they will be administering to 65 and older people as well. He added that the Board of Health continues to require masks in public places in the county, but they may relax some other requirements.

At the Monday Wright County Board of Supervisors meeting, Sandy McGrath updated the board on COVID in the county. Numbers sit at 1,689 (since March). She noted she is not seeing a huge spike, but there is still a steady incline.

Board hears about next phase of vaccinations

During the Monday Board of Supervisors meeting, Public Health Administrator Sandy McGrath said the case count stood at 1,671 on Monday (since March). Cases are still going up and mitigation efforts like masks and hand-washing are still crucial.

Property tax levy to go up 154%

The proposed fiscal year 2021-22 budget for the Wright County Assessor’s Office will increase by $154,000 over the 2020-21 fiscal year. Wright County Assessor Shari Plagge stressed that its important people remember that this office is a separate entity from the county just as are schools, cities, and extension offices, and that this levy rate is for the Assessor's Office only.

Board hears about moving to next vaccination group

During the Monday meeting of the Wright County Board of Supervisors, Sandy McGrath with Public Health noted in her weekly COVID update that there has been 1,630 positive cases since March. For vaccine news, she said that the state will likely move into the next priority group, 1B, at the beginning of February. This group includes persons 75 and older, fire, law enforcement and essential workers, persons who have a caregiver in their home and the caregiver, teachers and childcare providers, manufacturers that work in condensed settings and those in congregate settings.

“We will not waste a single dose”- Wright County provides COVID-19 vaccine update

According to Wright County Public Health, they are working to get the COVID-19 vaccine to people as quickly as possible. The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) is partnering with county public health departments for this process. Both the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are currently being administered in Iowa to the Phase 1A priority populations of health care personnel and long-term care residents and staff.

Board hears about slow vaccines, picks sign company

In her weekly update during the Wright County Board of Supervisors meeting, Sandy McGrath said the overall COVID count for the county sat at 1,585 as of Monday. Vaccinations continue. She noted that last week’s allocation of the Moderna vaccine was 100 doses rather than the previous weeks allocation of 200. Those 100 doses were also late and had not been received by the end of last week. McGrath added that the county was marked for 200 more doses this week.

Wright County Charitable Foundation awards fall grants

The Wright County Charitable Foundation (WCCF) recently held their fall grant cycle. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic it was not possible to hold the traditional grant ceremony as in years past, instead grant recipients were notified of awards by mail. The Wright County Charitable Foundation is proud to have supported 16 projects with this round of awards with a total of $37,640 granted to worthy Wright County causes and projects. Since the first granting period in Spring 2006, the Wright County Charitable Foundation has granted $1,221,884.00.
