Supervisors talk about Page Ave property

During the open forum portion of Monday’s Wright County Board of Supervisors meeting, Jona McGrath and Dann Schroeder came before the board to talk about the property around their mother’s, Joan Schroeder’s, home at 1775 Page Ave by Lake Cornelia across from Clarmond Country Club. The family noted that they have been maintaining the property around the home since the mid-70s though it is owned by the county, Clarmond and the state. The Schroeders would like the property around the buildings signed over to them, mentioning “adverse possession” provisions.

Wright County joins CICS Mental Health Region

As of July 1, Wright County is now a member of a new mental health region. Iowa is divided into 14 of these regions that provide locally delivered services that are regionally managed according to statewide standards. These regions work with people experiencing brain health struggles and intellectual or other developmental disabilities.  At the beginning of the month, Wright County became one of four new counties to join the Central Iowa Community Services (CICS) region.

New portable traffic control lights in county

Last week, several crewmembers from Wright County Secondary Roads sat in on training for the county’s new portable traffic control lights. Wright County Engineer Adam Clemons explains that road projects that require traffic control can use the portable light instead of flaggers. “These traffic control devices will decrease chances of injury to the road crew and aid in the traveling public going through our construction zones,” Clemons noted. Supervisors approved modified R-38 construction

In the weekly COVID update, Sandy McGrath said that the county has had four new cases in the last week. She added that state lab results are showing that 85% of new cases statewide are the Delta variant, which spreads easier and can be more severe, so we should assume that it is also in Wright County.

McGrath reported that 45.7% of the county is now vaccinated. She said that Public Health gave 20 vaccinations at the county fair. The county sits at 32nd in the state for vaccinations given.

Courthouse clock and bell back in business

               Like so many other things, the clock and bell on the Wright County Courthouse took a break over the last year. This hiatus didn’t have as much to do with the pandemic as with needed repairs and other factors. After taking a rest, the clock and bell were finally back at it last week when they were restarted on Friday.

County plans vaccinations at Fair

               In her weekly COVID update at the Wright County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, Sandy McGrath noted that there have been 1,854 cases in the county since the pandemic started. She said positive numbers are down, but she is still seeing new cases pop up, including four over the weekend so the illness is still circulating.

Board approves amended budget and talks vaccines

At the meeting of the Wright County Board of Supervisors on Monday, Sandy McGrath provided an update on COVID and vaccinations in the county. The county sat at 1,849 positive cases as of Monday. She reminded people to get tested and hunker down if they are ill. 39.7% of Wright County is vaccinated at this point. The county has given 4,145 two dose vaccination series and 1,547 Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

Wright County Extension offering Women in Ag Series

The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Wright County Office is offering a free near monthly series for women involved in agriculture.  This farm management education program will highlight various aspects of farming, including grain marketing, planting, women and finance, estate planning, and more. 

Vaccine clinics scheduled for 12-18 year-olds in Wright County

Wright County Public Health is announcing their clinics for adolescents and young adults ages 12-18. Public Health has been allocated the Pfizer vaccine to distribute to this age group in Wright County. We want to stress that Pfizer in Wright County is only for those ages between 12-18 and we still have both the Johnson and Johnson vaccine as well as Moderna for anyone else ages 18 and older who have not been vaccinated yet.
