Supervisors hear presentation on 2020 employee wellness program

In a short meeting on Monday, the supervisors dealt with only a few agenda items. Jeremy Abbas with the Wellness Committee presented the 2020 ISAC wellness program contract. The contract detailed what the employees need to do for program and how to obtain monetary incentives. Ways to gain incentives include completing a physical and several other options like visiting a financial planner or volunteering. Abbas noted the committee is working to make reporting such activities easier with a fill-in form.

Supervisors vote in new chairman and hold organizational meeting

The Wright County Board of Supervisors met for a special session last Thursday. This first meeting of the year was mostly organizational in purpose and functioned as the yearly re-set of county and board duties.

Supervisors hear update and funding request from Wright Co. Fair Board

The Wright County Fair Board gave their annual update and again requested funding. Tricia Rosendahl, fair manager, spoke about many aspects of the fair. She said the Fair Sponsorship program was successful again and raised over $66,000. The Kids Day and Veterans Programs were popular again. Youth involvement went well with over 940 4-H and FFA entries in livestock and non-livestock exhibits. The fair board was also approached by a new carnival, Scott’s Amusements who are out of the Boone area. They will bring their carnival to the fair starting next summer.

Supervisors hear from county medical examiner and IT director on network plans

In their Monday meeting, the Wright County Board of Supervisors heard from county medical examiner Dr. Jon Ahrendsen. Ahrendsen explained that the county sends out medical examiners and investigators in cases of death from accident, suicide, homicide, and other unintended causes. He noted that he has been in the position since 1987, and the work has become more time-consuming since the state converted to an electronic system to report information.

New Wright County naturalist looks forward to getting her hands dirty

From the time she was a young girl running around the forest, Sarah Rueger knew that she wanted a career that would put her in the outdoors. Rueger describes herself as a lover of nature and all things rustic. So when she was offered a full-time position as a naturalist and technician here in Wright County, she jumped at the opportunity and has been loving it ever since.

Supervisors sign off on tower contract and hear from library association

At their Monday meeting, the Wright County Board of Supervisors reviewed the final contract with U.S. Cellular for the revised tower lease agreement for the company to use more space on the tower located in Clarion. The company will be adding more antennas to the tower to update and enhance services. The price will go up $780 to be $1,642 per month, growing 2% per year. They signed off on the contract pending final approval by the county attorney.

Supervisors discuss tower rent agreement and hear from UDMO

The Wright County Board of Supervisors held a short meeting on Monday. The first agenda item pertained to the U.S. Cellular rent agreement for the tower located in Clarion. U.S. Cellular is planning to add several radio antennae to the existing tower for upgrades to their system. Supervisor Karl Helgevold explained that the company had agreed to terms that would raise the rent by 92% to $1632 per month. The full discussion of the agreement will be added to the agenda next week.

Supervisors sign two letters of support for Eagle Grove grants

The Wright County Supervisors meeting started with the board hearing from Eagle Grove City Administrator Bryce Davis. Davis appeared to ask the board to sign two letters of support for grant applications. The first application was for a water quality initiative grant for the Eagle Grove’s Downtown Streetscape Improvement Project. They will be undertaking a $3 million project for improvements like building façade improvement and beautifying streetscapes. There is also a green infrastructure and water quality improvement portion of the project.
