At the Monday Wright County Board of Supervisors meeting, Sandy McGrath updated the board on COVID in the county. Numbers sit at 1,689 (since March). She noted she is not seeing a huge spike, but there is still a steady incline.

McGrath expects to receive 200 doses of the vaccine later this week for the county’s allotment. She said they are planning for the vaccine clinics in Clarion, Belmond, and Eagle Grove in the next couple of weeks. At present, the Clarion clinic is planned to start Thursday, February 11 with Belmond the 15th and Eagle Grove the 16th. Dows, Rowan, and Goldfield will also be added in later. People ages 65 and older can sign up to receive the vaccine at: https://sugeni.us/WTyk. If you are unable to sign up electronically, please call Wright County Health Department for assistance (515-532-3461). McGrath noted that slots are already full until early March. Slots are quite limited because, in addition to those 65 and older, they are also working on vaccinating others in the 1B group including fire, law enforcement and first responders, teachers and daycare workers, and others.

Peggy Schluttenhofer, Wright County Treasurer, presented a tax abatement for the board’s consideration. The abatement was for the building on 1002 Central Ave West in Clarion in the amount of around $13,000. Heartland Museum is taking over ownership of the building. Schluttenhofer said the abatement and the acquisition are positives since it will get the building back on the tax rolls for the county. The board okayed the abatement.

In other business, the board approved a liquor license for Clarmond Country Club Inc. They received the quarterly revenue reports from the recorder and auditors. Recorder Denise Baker noted that the last quarter showed over $100,000 in revenue which is very high. Adam Clemons, Wright County Engineer said in his secondary roads update that the department currently has three open positions, though they have interviews planned for one this week.
