Clarion’s proposed budget trims city tax rate slightly

The Clarion City Council moved its fiscal 2020-21 budget toward approval in March 2020 and set a public hearing for March 24 at 4:35 p.m.

The proposed budget set the city tax rate at $17.903 per $1,000 of taxable value, a hair below the prior year’s $17.93. The ag land levy stayed at $3.00 per $1,000.

A rate drop of under three cents won’t change many tax bills much. Actual bills also depend on assessed values, which the county sets, and the state’s rollback on residential property.
