Cowgirls lose to Estherville in first round

The Class 3A-Region 2 Quarterfinal saw the CGD Cowgirls facing the mighty Estherville Lincoln Central Midgets. Going into the game, the Cowgirls knew it was not going to be easy given the fact that the Midgets held a 20-2 record versus the 6-15 Cowgirls.

Cowgirls defeated by Bulldogs during final matchup this season

It was the last 2021/2022 winter season matchup for the CGD Cowgirls last Tuesday night. With the season reaching its end, the Cowgirls lost their last game of the regular season 58-28. Hosted by the 15-6 Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs, the Cowgirls finished their season with a 6-15 record. It was a tough matchup for the Cowgirls, though they ended the season with determination for their next matchup that took place on Saturday, Feb. 12.

Cowboys finish season tied first in NCC for the first time in 60 years!

Chavez, Kirstein, and Seaba brothers advance to state!

The CGD Cowboys participated in districts last Saturday night, as the Cowboys were seeking to advance to state. Here are the stats for districts:

ETHAN TRAUB - 126 - 3rd PLACE OVERALL
Semifinals: Max Currier (Clear Lake) over Traub (MD 14-2)
2nd Place Match: Max Currier over Traub (NC)
3rd Place Match: over Caleb Jones (Okoboji/HMS) by fall (2:42)

CGD JV Girls Basketball

The 2021-2022 JV girl’s basketball team finished up their regular season schedule this past week completing the year with a 12-8 season record. The JV team girls Basketball team played at home January 25th losing a close game 41-44 to Clear Lake. We started the game slowly and dug ourselves a hole getting behind 19-3. We battled back with our defense and put up some decent points in this game. I was extremely proud of the way the girls never quit in this game. We just seemed to gain a lot of momentum and confidence in what we were doing as the game went on and that was fun to see.

Cowboys victorious over Algona, defeated by Crestwood, Cresco

The CGD wrestling squad faced Crestwood, Cresco and Algona last Tuesday. The Cowboys won one dual and lost the other. With hope and confidence, the Cowboys headed to Districts on Saturday, Feb. 12.

With their final matchup set for visiting Hampton-Dumont-CAL High School, the CGD Cowgirls finished the regular season against the Bulldogs on Tuesday, Feb. 8. Now the postseason begins. The Cowgirls will face the 19-2 Estherville Lincoln Central Midgets for the Class 3A - Region 2 Quarterfinal. The game is set for Saturday, Feb. 12 at Estherville-LC High School, at 7 PM.

Cowgirls experience painful losses to West Hancock, Algona, Humboldt

VS. WEST HANCOCK Hosted by the West Hancock Eagles, the CGD Cowgirls were in for a rough night as they were bested 59-26.

The first quarter saw severe struggle from the Cowgirls. They only managed to score two points against the dominating Eagles, who pounded 12 points right from the opening quarter. The second quarter saw six points from the Cowgirls. What was an improvement from the first quarter didn’t do much for the Cowgirls as the Eagles scored 29 points, bumping their lead to a score of 41-8.
