IOMA State Pool Tournament news

The IOMA State Pool Tournament is coming up the week of March 9th until March 14th with the appearance of the Derailers, including Mike Rolo, Matt Reed, Dave Walker from Eagle Grove, Devin Weidauer from Belmond, and Randy Mallison from Fort Dodge. The team tournament started Friday, Feb. 25, at 6:00pm. The team is sponsored by Fred and Martha from Dona Martha’s and Tiara Paul and Ashley Ashenfelter through Redhead Tribe Logos in the Senior Nineball. Mike Rolo will be playing in Nineball and Eightball while Devin will be in the Nineball, and Randy will be in Senior Eight ball.

Cowboys suffer heartbreaking loss to Cardinals in semi-final

The semi-final was the limit for the Cowboys this winter season. Losing 43-41 to the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals, the Cowboys were eliminated from the state qualifier tournament. The first half saw the Cardinals playing “catch-up” as the Cowboys charged through the first half aggressively. Nevertheless, the score remained close throughout the first half. The Cardinals were down throughout the majority of the first half, but never lost spirit in the game. With that said, the Cowboys managed to pin the Cardinals down, always a step in front and a point ahead.

The CGD Cowboys hosted the Forest City Indians last Thursday night. After making history by being the first Cowboy team to clinch first in the NCC Conference for 60 years, the Cowboys continue to impress as they have smashed their way through to the semi-final.

The end to a captivating Cowgirls season

Congratulations to the CGD Cowgirls for a hard-fought season. When asked, Coach Liz Ennis provided an in-depth reflection and summary of this season for the CGD Cowgirls, “We started our year confidently with four wins out of the gate. As we began to play tougher opponents who played more pressure defense, it exposed some of our weaknesses-poor choices in our offensive set, lack of offensive spacing, and poor passing in breaking full court pressure. The Christmas break brought us some extra time to continue drilling fundamentals and work on better defense.

State wrestling results

The CGD Cowboys participated in the state tournament last Thursday-Saturday. Congratulations to Cale Kirstein, Mack Seaba, Garrett Seaba, and Daniel Chavez as they battled their way through the state tournament with determination and hope. Here are the stats of the following Cowboys:

Garrett Seaba clinches second at state!

Garrett Seaba clinched second place at the state tournament last week. With his performance, Seaba spoke on some of his thoughts and reflections on making it to state, saying, “I’m grateful that I’ve been able to qualify for state all four years of high school. Each year I got better and better, and I went this year with the state championship as my ultimate goal.”
