To say we're all facing some challenges right now is an understatement. The World Health Organization has declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Travel has been restricted. Events across the U.S. have been cancelled. We're in an economic downturn. Many businesses are feeling the pinch and on and on and on.

Bids for courthouse and professional building repairs higher than anticipated

During their regular meeting on Monday, the Wright County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing on the bids for the courthouse and professional building roof repair. Representatives from Allers and Associates Architects out of Fort Dodge said that two bids had been received, which is fewer than they had hoped for. Sadler Construction out of Eagle Grove was the low bid at around $619,000. Terry Allers noted that this was significantly higher than the estimate of around $517,00 for the project.

April 1 is officially Census Day. According to the official website, 2020Census.gov, “By this date, every home will receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. Once the invitation arrives, you should respond for your home in one of three ways: online, by phone, or by mail. When you respond to the census, you'll tell the Census Bureau where you live as of April 1, 2020.” If you haven’t completed the Census by April 1, don’t worry. There is still plenty of time.

First Case of COVID-19 Confirmed in Wright County

On 3/26/2020, Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported a positive case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Wright County. This individual is currently self-isolating at home.

While this is Wright County’s first case, it most likely will not be the last. “We continue to urge all residents to make prevention a priority by following these measures.” said Wright County Environmental Health, Epidemiology, and Emergency Preparedness, Sandy McGrath, RN.

Wright County Board of Public Health encourages self-isolation if you've traveled outside of Iowa

The Wright County Board of Public Health and Board of Supervisors are STRONGLY encouraging ALL Wright County residents that have recently traveled for business, spring break or vacation whether internationally or out of the State of Iowa to self-isolate for 14 days. Iowa has implemented many provisions to emphasize social distancing. It is the responsibility of each resident of Wright County to do their part to limit contact with each other during this time.

Sharing her love of education for 30 years- Voigts named AAUW’s Woman of the Year

The mission of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is to “advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy.” The women of the Clarion branch of the organization have dedicated themselves to this goal for many years. It is so important, that annually, they recognize one woman in the area who has gone above and beyond to meet that goal. This year, they chose to honor Joan Voigts as their Woman of the Year.

The last couple of weeks have been tough on many individuals and sectors of society. Healthcare systems are trying to cope with a new, unknown illness. School children are figuring out ways to learn away from school while parents attempt to help them. And businesses face closures or restrictions that may put them in jeopardy. It is this last issue that the Clarion Chamber and local supporters have recently worked together to address.

Supervisors approve resolution for small business assistance in Wright County

The Wright County Board of Supervisors eagerly passed a resolution Monday morning designed to assist the county’s small businesses. Wright County Economic Development (WCED) Director Cindy Litwiller presented the measure to the board.
