Gov. Reynolds begins to lift COVID-19 restrictions in certain areas of Iowa

Governor Kim Reynolds has begun to relax emergency restrictions in Iowa even as cases of COVID-19 continue with near exponential growth across the state.

As of Sunday, April 26, there have been 5,474 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, nearly doubling the 2,902 cases from the week prior.

With most small businesses being closed or partially closed due to the impacts of COVID-19, owners are using every means necessary to stay afloat. One option that many business owners have pursued is applying for the myriad of local, state or federal programs designed to help small businesses. These programs take the form of loans or, in rarer cases, grants. And two weeks ago, three Clarion businesses received the good news that a grant was coming their way.

Supervisors plan to pump down Page Ave pond, explore tile

At the Wright County Board of Supervisors meeting Monday morning, Adam Clemons, Wright County Engineer, presented the board with different options to address the ponding near Page Avenue. Two months ago, Clemons had explained to the board about an ongoing problem on the southeast corner of Lake Cornelia by the curve where a persistent pond is causing damage to the road. The consensus is that the tile under the road may be blocked.

Last weekend, the Clarion Movie Theater joined a growing number of theaters in an effort to stay in business and serve the community. On Sunday evening, the theater set up a drive-thru concession stand where they served popcorn to people in their vehicles.

Lighting stadiums and lifting spirits

The last few Friday nights, a curious sight could be seen at the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football field. Despite the fact school is not in session and no activities are being held, the stadium lights have been burning bright. This is not a matter of someone forgetting to turn off the lights. Rather, this is a purposeful effort. The Iowa High School Athletic Director's Association is behind the promotion of high schools across the state of Iowa lighting up the stadiums at 8:00 pm each Friday night until school activities resume.

Disaster Recovery Fund activated in response to COVID-19 Pandemic

On behalf of our county, the Wright County Charitable Foundation has established the Disaster Recovery Fund (DRF) to support our most negatively impacted populations as they face the effects of COVID-19. The DRF provides an opportunity for the public to give with the reassurance their donations will be used to quickly move resources to where they are most needed and to adapt to evolving needs. The flexibility of the fund will ensure that the county will be able to respond to needs that are not being met by existing non-profit, local, state and federal programs.
