Deadline for Golden Apple Award nominations is April 1

It’s the time of the year to start thinking about the Golden Apple Excellence in Education award.

The Golden Apple Charitable Foundation was started in 1999. The purpose is to recognize outstanding teachers in the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows school system.

Law Enforcement Appreciation Day at CGD Middle School

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Middle School students made cards for the Clarion Police Department and Wright County Sheriff’s Office. These were put together to recognize Wright County law enforcement officers for Law Enforcement Appreciation Day last week. Several officers also visited the school to speak to the students. Middle School Principal Steve Haberman said, “It felt great to have the officers back in the school.

School board hears more about daycare situation

               At the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Board of Education meeting on Monday, the group heard a presentation from McKinley Bailey, Executive Director of Building Families. His organization works to ensure the health, safety, well-being and education of children, mainly before they enter the K-12 school system. He has been working with Kids Korner Daycare as they work to move out of the elem. building. Bailey was addressing a plan that the district has been considering involving providing all-day care for 3 and 4 year olds that includes preschool at an early childhood education center.

CGD Elementary shares musical talents and Christmas wishes in recorded concerts

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Elementary School recorded their holiday concerts a few weeks ago, but audiences are still tuning in to view them. Kindergarten through 2nd grade and 3rd through 5th grade both recently recorded concerts that are available to watch online. Because of gathering restrictions and under advice from Wright County Public Health, the public was not able to attend the concerts in person. That didn’t put a damper on the kids’ enthusiasm though.

Mr. Haberman, Clarion Goldfield Dows Middle School Principal, is proud to recognize the following students who attained the honor roll for Tri 1 of the 2020/2021 school year. Congratulations on a job well done.  Students on the A Honor Roll have maintained a grade point average of 3.67 or higher.  Students on the B Honor Roll have maintained a grade point average of 3.0 to 3.66.

JV girls basketball sits at 5-2 record at the Christmas break.

The JV team completed three more games recently going 2-1 in those games losing at Clear Lake, winning at home against Iowa Falls and winning again at Algona.

Dear CGD Staff and Families,

As we approach the Christmas Holiday, I'd like to express my deepest appreciation for everyone in our CGD communities who make our school system truly special. During what most would describe as "challenging times" we've come together to support our students, their families, and the greater Clarion-Goldfield-Dows community throughout this pandemic.

CGD HS and MS concerts set to be livestreamed on Dec. 7 and 8

High School:

On Monday, December 7th, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School Music Department will present its holiday concert from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the CGDHS gym.   Featured groups are high school concert band, jazz band, and the high school concert choir.  

The band will wear their concert band outfits while the choir will wear their choir robes. 

Boys: remember to wear black pants, black shoes, and black socks.  Girls: remember nude-colored hose and black flat dress shoes.
