CGD honors four retirees with around 80 years combined service

At the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Teacher Appreciation event last week, four retirees were honored as the 2021-2022 school year winds down. Their experiences and positions spanned the gamut, but they all leave behind fond memories of their students and the good times they had at CGD.

Cowboys and Cowgirls compete at State Track, Foss takes 9th in high jump

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys and Cowgirls attacked the blue oval at the State Track Meet in Des Moines this past week. And although the teams may have not gotten their hoped-for results, there were some notable achievements.

Cowboys Wrap-up

CGD’s highest placer was junior Nevan Foss who continued his solid season in the high jump. On Friday, Foss tied a personal best 6-2.00 jump and ended up placing 9^th. The winner of the event, Derek Weisskopf from Williamsburg, had a jump of 6-7.00.

CGD girls golf at home Regionals last week, Christensen finishes in top 10

Two Clarion-Goldfield-Dows seniors got one more chance to golf at home last week. Emily Christensen and Karina Torres both had advanced to the second round of Regional golf held at Clarmond last week.

CGD coach honored for 25 years coaching track

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the state track meet this past week, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirl Track Coach Monty Harker picked up a little award himself. Harker was honored by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches (IATC) for 25 years of coaching.

Second year for cereal box dominos, food pantry donation

For the second year, the CGD Elementary School Talented and Gifted students did something very fun for a worthwhile cause. They collected cereal for the local food pantry. But they didn’t just collect it and drop it off at the pantry. First, they used the boxes for a giant domino game! The group decided to continue this effort that was started last year as part of a social media challenge. Last year they collected over 700 boxes. This year, it was over 360 boxes collected with Mrs. Hoffman’s kindergarten class collecting the most.

TAG students help and have fun at Lake Cornelia

The CGD TAG students had a day of outdoor learning at Lake Cornelia a few weeks ago. They started with a landscaping project with Wright County Naturalist Sam Hanson. The group put down landscaping fabric, mulch, and rock around the sign at the entrance to the park. Next, Hanson presented a lesson about deer. Then, for fun, the group tried archery and fishing (where they caught a leaf, two sticks, and a bag). They wrapped up the day with some tasty roasted hot dogs and s’mores.

‘Above the call of duty’- Rosendahl receives Educator of Year Award

CGD Middle School teacher honored as Golden Apple winner

Every year, a teacher at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows is honored for his or her outstanding work. Last week at the Teacher Appreciation Gathering, the 2022 Golden Apple recipient was named. Middle School Social Studies teacher Adam Vorrie was presented with the award.
