School board holds hearings for budget and calendar

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Board of Education tackled several weighty topics at their monthly meeting on Thursday, March 12. In attendance at the meeting were a troop of Boy Scouts and a few members of the CGD Student Council observing the proceedings.

They may be beginners, and they may not have gone to many competitions (thanks, Iowa winter weather), but they had fun and learned a lot! Thus, was the story of the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Quiz Bowl team this past year.

UPDATED: Clarion-Goldfield-Dows School District announces their pick for superintendent

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows District hosted three strong finalists for their district superintendent position. Each candidate met with two mixed formal interview teams and the school board and had both a community and district tour. The Board of Education met in closed session to review feedback from the formal interview teams after the interviews on Wednesday, Feb. 26^th.

C-G-D district superintendent finalists announced

The candidate pool for the superintendent position resulted in 21 total candidates. The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Board of Education met in closed session on Wednesday, January 15, to review all 21 applicants’ materials and references with Grundmeyer Leader Services consultants. Five candidates were selected as semifinalists and invited for screening interviews with the board on February 5. At conclusion of the screening interviews, the Board invited three finalists to interview on Wednesday, Feb. 26. These finalists are:

New Silver Cord Award gives C-G-D students chance to embrace community service

The spirit of volunteerism and community service is alive and well in the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows schools. Most people are familiar with the Peer Helper program that many C-G-D middle schoolers are involved in, through which students get the opportunity to engage in community service. Until recently, no similar programs really existed as students moved on to high school. However, this school year, a new program was instituted for freshmen through seniors that allows them to help others and give of themselves.

C-G-D School District plans to keep students busy on snow days; E-learning days will be utilized this winter

With the winter weather in full swing, an often frustrating side effect that comes with it is an abundance of snow days. While students may like the occasional day off, the canceled classes often cause a headache for school districts as they struggle to rearrange schedules to meet state requirements and may find the school year dragging on well into June. To help combat that issue, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows School District has approved measures to implement “E-Learning Days” for up to three days this school year. This will allow students to engage in instruction from home on snow days.
