Cowgirls get sweep of Algona, go 2-2 at tough Osage tournament

North Central Conference foe Algona was the visiting Cowgirl opponent last Thursday in a home match, and the Bulldogs proved no match for the ladies as they feasted on home cooking in a three-set sweep. Scores were 25-9, 25-15 and 25-11.

The third-ranked (3A) C-G-D Cowgirl volleyball team ran their record to 6-0 on the season with a sweep of Webster City in three straight sets to open NCC play. Scores were 25-7, 25-17 and 25-8.

Team serving was at 91.7 percent efficiency, with Jadyn Jondle using her jump serve to go a perfect 21 of 21 with six aces. Lexie Lane was 16 of 18 with three aces, followed by Kendall Lienemann and Alaina Friesleben both at 11 of 12 and two aces each. Nicole Waters was 4 of 6 and Morgan Middleton 3 of 4 from behind the serving line.

Cowboys football still struggles in 30-8 loss to Gaels

It was a long night for the Cowboy football team at Dodger Stadium versus St. Edmond. The Gaels relentless attack gave them a 30-8 win, as the visitors could only mount one successful drive as their offensive woes continue. That score was courtesy of a six-yard run by Trenton Jergenson, who also tacked on the two-point conversion.

CGD cross country teams compete at Webster City

The Cowgirl and Cowboy teams traveled to the Webster City Invitational last Tuesday on the Links Golf Course. Roland-Story won the girls varsity team title with 39 points, followed in the top five of 11 complete teams by North Polk with 66, St. Edmond with 68, Algons with 118 and Manson NW Webster with 133.

Raven Kinnetz continues her good start to the season with a 23:28 for 20th place. The rest of the team finished like this: Makayla Pulido with 27:13 for 63rd, Natalie Kirstein with 28:42 for 73rd and Lauren Hansch with 33:34 for 88th.

Cowgirls Volleyball wins their Invitational once again

When the dust settled from the day of volleyball action last Saturday, one thing was crystal clear. All the visiting teams taking part in this year’s Cowgirl Invitational were no match for the third-rated (3A) home team as the Cowgirls easily took another title.

They shut out Eagle Grove 21-0 and 21-0. Jondle served at 21 of 21 with nine aces, while Lexie Lane went 20 of 20 with two. Morgan Middleton led with five kills, with Lane at four and Kendall Lienemann three.

Cross country team runs at Southeast Valley

The Cowgirl and Cowboy cross country teams traveled to Gowrie last Thursday for the Southeast Valley Invitational meet.

Panorama used a 1-2 individual finish to take the team crown with just 47 points. They were followed in the top five of 11 full teams by St. Edmond with 63, ACGC with 80, Madrid with 112 and Manson NW Webster with 132. The Cowgirls were not able to run a full team. Ella Waddle of Panorama won with a 20:43.57.

Cowboy football loses to Hampton-Dumont/CAL

Tim Morrison’s debut as the Cowboy football coach was not exactly a memorable one, but they did keep the game from getting out of hand in last Friday’s 18-4 loss to the Bulldogs from Hampton.

“We need to focus on what we can control,” said the head coach. “We had too many mistakes. We cannot turn the ball over and expect to win football games.”

Volleyball preview: Cowgirl volleyball seniors want to go out on top this year

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball seniors have been building towards this opportunity for the last three years, but technically for most of their high school athletic careers. From the time they first set foot on a court, and handled a volleyball, they have worked hard on their skills and have seen that pay off when they reached their varsity years. They have also taken a step closer each year, making state but losing in the quarters two years ago and losing in the semifinal round last year. This year, they look to make the finals and intend to take that title trophy home.

Football preview: New era of Cowboy football under coach Morrison

Tim Morrison came to C-G-D to not only take the athletic director position, but more importantly to try to resurrect Cowboy football to more wins. He already has liked what he sees from his charges during camp and early practices.
