Cowboys hit a rough stretch of games

As the season closes in on district play, the Cowboys are having trouble putting something good together to carry them into the postseason. Last week saw a couple nights of some offense, only not near enough to produce any wins.

Monday had them visiting Webster City and losing 12-0 to the Lynx. Cael Chase had the lone connection for a base hit, and was also tagged with the loss on the hill. He allowed eight earned runs on nine hits with four walks. Mateo Martinez and Kaleb King also saw pitching duty, throwing one strikeout each.

Cowgirls score some runs, just not enough to pick up wins

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows softball team ran into a good Webster City team last Monday, losing 13-1 on the Lynx home field. Kendall Lienemann drove in MacKenna Hasty for the lone score. Mady Hennigar and Brooke Askelsen also reached on base hits, with Brooke stealing a base right after that.

Cowgirls trying hard for second win of season

With regional play just around the corner, the Cowgirls would like nothing better than to find their second win of the season that might propel them on a roll entering the tournament trail. They visited neighboring Eagle Grove last Tuesday and found the host team not too hospitable in a 15-5 loss. They were to come back from a 9-0 deficit to cut into the lead and make it 9-5, but that would be as close as they got for the rest of the night.

Cowgirls open regional play at Aplington-Parkersburg

The Cowgirls have been assigned to Region 5 in Class 2A for softball postseason play, and will face Aplington-Parkersburg on July 6 on the Falcons’ field. All regional games start at 7 p.m. On that same side of the bracket, Eagle Grove goes to Eldora to face South Hardin. The winner of the Cowgirls versus Falcons game will face Columbus Catholic on July 7 in Waterloo, with that winner then playing the winner of the Eagles versus Falcons game in the semifinals on July 9 in Waterloo.

Cowboys looking for wins before district play

In a home game last Monday, the Cowboys hosted Humboldt and took a 12-0 loss from the Wildcats. Porter Chase and Cael Chase had the only base hits for the team, with Kaleb King taking the loss on the mound. He gave up five earned runs on 11 hits with five walks, two hit batters and two strikeouts.

The team lost to St. Edmond 7-6 on Wednesday at Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge. Final stats from that game were not yet posted at press time. Look for a summary in next week’s Monitor.

Cowgirls get first win in exciting fashion 24-23!

While we all believed the Cowgirls first win was coming soon, I don’t think anyone could have seen this kind of game coming. It was truly a game of who could score the most, and thankfully it turned out to be our ladies in red & black.

Cowboys get first win of season 11-9 over H-D/CAL

The Cowboy baseball team was down 9-0 after the top of the third inning, and could have easily folded their tent at that point. But these guys wanted that first taste of victory and to give coach Nail his initial career win at the school he played for. To their credit, they rolled up their sleeves and went to work with a seven-run third and tacked on four more in the fifth for an 11-9 win.

Cowgirls score more runs as they get ever closer to a win

It was a week in which Cowgirl Nation saw the team score 26 total runs. While it didn’t produce any wins, they were right in several of those games as they close in on putting it all together on the right night. This ever-improving team will rise up to catch someone sleeping on them just enough to get that first win for coach Terhark very soon now.

Cowboys come close in a 4-2 loss to St. Edmond

In a Friday home game, coach Ryan Nail came close to getting his first win as the Cowboys played competitively and had a chance at victory before falling 4-2 to visiting St. Edmond. The team got both runs in the third, with Preston Gardner, Mateo Martinez, Porter Chase and Kaleb King all reaching on base hits. Gardner and Martinez both crossed the dish and Chase was credited with an RBI. Chase, Mason Allen and Thane Jackson all took a free ride to first, while Martinez was hit by a pitch to advance. Damien Bjorklund reached on an error. Gardner, Chase and Allen all stole a bag.

Cowboys off to a rough start offensively

Last Tuesday in Jewell, the Cowboy baseball team dropped a 16-0 game to South Hamilton. Preston Gardner smacked a double, with Porter Chase and Cael Chase reaching on singles for the only other connections. Damien Bjorklund and Nick Carpenter drew a walk each and Mason Allen was hit by a pitch to advance. Kaleb King reached on an error.
