4-H sewing and knitting workshop hosts 6 Wright County youth

Wright County 4-H hosted a Sewing and Knitting workshop in partnership with Sally’s Sewing Room located in Clarion. The workshop was held at Heartland Museum on February 6. Six youth participants spent the day learning to use a sewing machine, practicing knitting techniques and sewing pillowcases. All participants kept their knitting projects and the pillowcases were donated to the Lotus Community Project in Vincent, Iowa.

Cowboys sending four wrestlers to Des Moines

Following 2A district action last Saturday in Humboldt the Cowboy wrestling team will be represented by four individual qualifiers at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines this week. Making the trip to the big dance are Reed Abbas (138), Remi Hanson (145), Garrett Seaba (160) and Kain Nelson (220).

Wright County Board of Health rescinds some emergency measures, masks still required

DCI Investigates Wright County Homicide

According to a press release from the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations, on February 16, 2021, at about 5:42 a.m., the Wright County Sheriff's Office received a report of a stabbing at Prestage Foods, located at 3813 Highway 17 in Eagle Grove, Iowa.

Over 100 staff vaccinated for COVID at CGD schools

“In my experiences over 20 years, many proud moments come from being a part of the CGD family, and today stands out among them,” said Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School Nurse Erin Halverson only hours after 119 staff members were vaccinated for COVID-19 last Friday. By all accounts, the vaccine clinic went very well.

Local rock enthusiast takes CGD Rocks south

Last fall, the Monitor reported on a couple local rock-hunting groups in the area. One was CGD Rocks, an effort started by Kaira Downing, that quickly became a fun activity enjoyed by many. One of those folks who got into not only rock hunting, but also painting and hiding rocks was Patty LaRue.

CGD student earns prestigious art award

When you see Raven Kinnetz’s award-winning work of art, you might get a little hungry. This is no wonder considering it is a picture of a tasty-looking cupcake. Raven’s piece is not only delicious looking, but was also impressive enough to take home an award from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

Raven is a senior at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School. She says she has been interested in art and drawing since she could hold a pencil. Her dad is an artist, and she has always drawn for fun. Eventually, she had a chance to take art classes in school.

School board hears presentations on new facilities

At their Monday night meeting, The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Board of Education heard two presentations regarding facility projects. The first was regarding a new gym at the middle school/elementary. Two ISG Engineers described the proposed gym, which would be located to the north and west of the middle school, essentially right off the lunchroom.

Kindergarteners collect over 100 food pantry items to celebrate 100 days of school

Last week, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Kindergarten students celebrated the 100th day of school by participating in a Service-Learning project for the community. The goal was to collect 100 items for the local food bank. CGD Kindergarten Teacher Anne Ries said about the project, “Given the pandemic and how many families are struggling, the decision was made to give back in some way to our community. The kids loved the idea and jumped on board collecting over 160 items. At this age it’s really about showing them different ways they can give back and make a difference in their community.
