Bubbles, bubbles everywhere!

It was bubbles galore at the Clarion Public Library last week! The library hosted Rick Brammer’s Absolute Science and his bubble stations as part of Summer Reading Club. Kids got to use giant bubble wands and special solution to make some truly impressive bubbles. Pictured, Grayson Weber makes some bubble magic. The windy conditions were actually helpful to make the bubble blowing a breeze, even for the littlest library-goers. The library will continue with Summer Reading Club over the next several weeks. Join the Wright County Extension Office and First Lutheran Church Food Pantry for a community garden tour

The Wright County Extension Office and First Lutheran Church Food Pantry have established a community garden to increase access to fresh produce for food pantry shoppers. The Food Pantry Community Garden is located at the community garden plots north of the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion. On Saturday, July 10th at 1pm, visit the Food Pantry Community Garden for a garden tour. Come see the success of the community garden and learn how these efforts on addressing food access needs in Wright County.

Summer learning = summer fun at CGD

If you’ve traveled around the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows schools in the last few weeks, you might have noticed some conspicuous activity. Dozens of students still at school! Buses and vehicles dropping off! Kids flying kites, throwing balls, playing beanbags! This is all part of CGD’s system for summer learning and by all accounts, it is going very well.

Governor visits Clarion daycare center

Governor Kim Reynolds made a brief stop Friday in Clarion as part of her 99 County Tour. She visited Kids Korner Daycare where she took a quick tour and chatted with the director and a few others who came out. Rather than talk about recent legislation, Reynolds was interested in gathering information and ideas about how to improve the state’s childcare crisis.

Clarion native involved in unique “brain-controlled” movie

Matt Voigts is likely a familiar name in Clarion. He’s a 2003 Clarion-Goldfield graduate and  edited the Monitor during 2014 between his masters' and starting his PhD at the University of Nottingham. He now works as a researcher and lives in The Netherlands. His parents Bruce and Joan have lived in Clarion since 1990.

Voigts has also spent the last few years engaged in an interesting side project. He explains, “Since 2017, I’ve been fortunate to be involved with the pre-production, production, exhibition, and research life of a ‘brain-controlled’ movie called “The Moment.”

City council talks water plant and possible downtown project

At the Tuesday, June 15 Clarion City Council meeting, various agenda items pertained to water projects again. A public hearing was held for an SRF Loan for the water plant. Kelly Evans from ISG Engineering explained that this step is basically a formality since the city hopes to use a USDA loan for the project given that it would have a better interest rate.

Cool camps planned at Lake Cornelia in July

It’s shaping up to be a fun and busy July out at Lake Cornelia Park. In addition to the regular camping, boating and swimming opportunities, the park and new naturalist Sam Hanson are gearing up for several fun camps next month for kids!

“I’m super excited that we are offering a wide-range of camps that cater to the different interests of kids,” said Hanson. “We’ll tap into a wide range of outdoor skills from building fires and cooking to kayaking and hikes.”
