‘Tis the season to be jolly and enjoy festive music! To that end, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School music department held their annual holiday concert last week. Several different musical groups performed a fun selection of joyful tunes.

The concert band under the direction of Kent Wesselink performed a combination of holiday classics as well as some modern songs. Their selections included “A Yuletide Festival,” “March of the Winter Elves,” “Angels in the Bleak Midwinter,” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”

The Clarion Police Department is the recipient of four new automatic external defibrillators (AEDs). The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust awarded the Iowa Department of Public Health’s Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services (BETS) a $10.1 million grant to provide law enforcement officials and first responders throughout Iowa with over 4000 AEDs which can help improve survival from cardiac arrest. Replenishment of supplies (AED pads and batteries) is also included in the program. Unique features on the machines include Wi-Fi and cellular capabilities.

With 1 in 8 Iowa children facing food insecurity, Iowa Select Farms, under the leadership of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, are driving the change to help end childhood hunger. Through the Power Snack™ program, Iowa Select Farms employees will be giving ham and bread coupons, along with pork sticks, to teachers and schools for distribution to their students. This program will supply enough coupons to total over 1,000,000 ham sandwiches, as well as 20,000 pork snack sticks, to help end childhood hunger, which the Foundation’s Power Snack™ program has been tackling for 9 years.
