Iowa’s federal legislators are calling for more support for Iowa farmers amid rising costs and potential cuts to international trade.

U.S. Sens. Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley called for the U.S. trade representative to intervene against the country’s plan to ban the importation of American genetically modified corn. The proposal would effectively stop the importation of 90% of U.S. corn to Mexico by January 2024, according to an Ernst news release.

Grassley holds town hall meeting in Wright County

On short notice last week, Republican U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley visited Clarion for a town hall meeting on his annual 99 county tour. Grassley had originally been scheduled to stop in town the previous week, but explained Chuck Schumer had called the Senate back for a vote.

Last Wednesday’s meeting was held at the Clarion VFW Hall and, though it was a rescheduled event that had not been well publicized, there were 25-30 people in attendance. Grassley took questions on a wide number of topics for about an hour.

Grassley holds Q&A session in Eagle Grove

A group of Eagle Grove small business owners, along with two Wright County Supervisors and City Administrator Bryce Davis, gathered to meet for a Q&A session with Senator Chuck Grassley last Thursday morning, Feb. 18. The stop was one of several others Grassley made last week in an effort to spend time listening to his constituents around Iowa.

Grassley finally hits Wright County on 99 County Tour

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (IA-R) greeted people last Thursday with elbow or fist bumps. Grassley, who was originally scheduled to be in the county in mid-March, finally made his way to Wright County last week as part of his whirlwind tour of the state during a two-week recess from the Senate. Wright County was his 27^th county visited in two weeks with two more planned later last week.
