Beverly Ann Skadburg
Beverly Skadburg, age 94, of Algona and formerly of Burt, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Algona Manor. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11 am on Tuesday, December 10th at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burt. Funeral services will begin at 11 am following the visitation. Lunch will be served after the service. Burial will take place at Holmes Lutheran Cemetery in Holmes, Iowa.
Beverly Ann Skadburg, the daughter of Thelmar and Judith (Stensland) Ford, was born on November 26, 1930 in Randall, Iowa. She graduated from Randall High School in 1948. Bev worked at the Iowa Highway Commission in Ames for one year following high school. She completed teacher training at Waldorf College in 1951. She later went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Drake University in 1970. On August 2, 1953 Bev was united in marriage with Arnold “Arnie” Skadburg at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. They were married for 58 years when Arnie passed away in 2012. Bev taught 2nd grade at Burt Community School retiring in 1993.
Bev was a 50 year member of the Federated Women’s Club, TLC Quilters at Trinity Lutheran Church, LWML, an advocate for Exceptional Opportunities, a volunteer at Kossuth Regional Health Center and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burt where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. A life well lived, Bev enjoyed her family, home, gardens, students, and friends. Her faith was especially important in her life.
Special family memories she created were beautiful Christmas celebrations, summer trips to Cutty’s, and special quilts made for every family member. Lovingly remembered is the relationship she and Grandpa had full of laughter and joy. She was patient and kind, creating an environment for all of us to be close as a family, an amazing gift.
Left to cherish Bev’s memory are her daughters Vickie (Steve) Madsen of Burt, Jayne (Brian) Carlson of Mason City, Diane Bunkofske of Webster City, and Shari (Ed Gunderson) Skadburg of Creswell, OR; grandchildren, Christiana (Jason Terry) Gunderson, Shane (Sarah) Madsen, John (Heidy Urena) Gunderson, Jill (Jake) Salmonson, Jaclyn (Joe) Townsend, Jeffrey (Joanne) Bunkofske and Jennie (Garret) Wilson; great grandchildren, Brennan and Mollie Madsen, Hayden and Hudson Salmonson, Nash and Colt Townsend, Cole, Ford and Jade Bunkofske and James Wilson; sisters, Shirley (Jon) Ross of Deerfield, MN, Joyce Koestner of Des Moines, Bonnie Butler of Webster City and brother-in-law Larry Clausen of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law (Stuart Bunkofske); a sister, (Nadine Clausen) and several sister/brother-in-laws.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of The Heartland or St. John’s Lutheran Church, Burt.
