Diana “Di” Weddell

Diana “Di” Weddell, 82, of Boone, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Diana was born on December 9, 1941, in Clarion, Iowa, the middle daughter of Robert and Jane (Williams) Davison. She attended Iowa State University and graduated from Eagle Grove Community College before marrying James “Jim” Weddell in 1963.

Diana and Jim moved to Boone in 1966, where they raised their two children. Many knew Diana from her work at Hawkeye Savings and Loan and as the office manager for Pollard Family Dentistry. She was the kind lady at the front desk!

Some of Diana’s favorite things included spending time with family near and far, enjoying all four seasons (especially crisp and sunny fall days), appreciating nature and time outdoors, spending time at the family cabin in Crosslake, MN, and traveling with friends and family to places with lakes (MN/WI), the ocean (Hawaii/Napili Bay), and mountains (Ouray, CO & Alaska), all of which topped her list. She also loved children and dogs! In her retirement years, she was rarely seen without dog treats in her pockets. Perhaps that is why she wore bib overalls—lots of pockets!

Countless people have said Diana was the sweetest and kindest lady, and her family thinks so, too! Even through her challenges with dementia, people noticed and commented on her sweet and kind nature. Diana had several nicknames: Di to her friends; Aunt Di to loved ones by blood or friendship; Zeke, Grandma Zeke, and most recently, GG to her kids and grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim, and her sister, Lynne Oberg.

Diana is survived by her two children, Michael (Jamie) Weddell of Wasilla, Alaska, and Jana (Randy) Stambaugh of Boone; two grandchildren, Chelsea (Ben) Wickman and Katie Weddell; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Sue (Jim) Snider of Boone; and many adoring nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place, and a private celebration of life will be held. If you wish to honor Diana, please get outside, play with children, and pet all the dogs!

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an animal shelter or rescue of your choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone.  Online condolences may be left to Diana’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com
