$500 Fishing Derby + Free Food at Lake Cornelia on June 8
Iowa residents will have the opportunity to fish without a required fishing license in all of
Iowa’s lakes and streams during the weekend of June 7-9. On Saturday, June 8, Wright
County Farm Bureau will hold a Fishing Derby at Lake Cornelia from 11 a.m. until 2
p.m. Up to $500 in cash prizes will be awarded. All participants must register at the open
shelter house prior to 12:30 p.m. There is no registration fee and fishing rods will be
available for those who do not own one.
From 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Wright County Farm Bureau will be providing a free
grilled hamburger and hot dog lunch at the open shelter house. Following lunch, Wright
County Soil and Water Conservation District personnel will demonstrate a rainfall
simulator to show how various farming methods affect the amount of soil erosion during
rainfall and how conservation practices improve the water quality of Iowa’s water bodies
such as Lake Cornelia and other local lakes, streams and rivers.
The fishing derby will be divided into two age groups: 17 and under and 18 and older.
Each person may enter the contest in three categories - total fish, heaviest fish and longest
fish. A pool of up to $500 in cash will be awarded for first, second and third places. All
fishing rules and regulations will be enforced at the contest. You do not have to be a
Farm Bureau member to attend, the public is invited. The rain date is June 9.
