Wright County Extension hosted National 4-H Week Events
The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Wright County Office hosted National 4-H Week events October 3rd through October 9th. The week started with Fall Festival at Gazebo Park, which was an opportunity for community members to engage with active 4-H members and clubs. Over 50 people were in attendance, including several youth, who signed up to become new 4-H and Clover Kids members. Wright County 4-H clubs showed off their enthusiasm for 4-H by leading engaging activities, including a cake walk and Minute to Win It styled games. Brian and Joni Worden were recognized for their years of service to the program and their recent induction to the 4-H Hall of Fame.
“Fall Festival was a great way for our clubs to engage with community members to learn more about the 4-H program,” said Emily Zahurones, County Youth Coordinator. “It was wonderful to see the amount of youth who were interested in enrollment for the new year. We are very excited for youth and families to learn more about the endless opportunities in 4-H!”
Additional 4-H week events included Trivia Tuesday, Trailblazing Thursday, and Find Out Friday. Three area 4-H members participated in the 2nd Annual Trivia Night at Gazebo Park, representing their 4-H clubs for a chance to win a pizza party for their club. During Trailblazing Thursday, youth in grades K-3 were invited to join Sam Hanson from Wright County Conservation at Lake Cornelia for a short night hike and roasting marshmallows by the fire.
If you or an area youth is interested in joining 4-H or Clover Kids, contact Emily at the Wright County Extension Office at 515-532-3453 or eez@iastate.edu.
