Steven “Sam” S. Meyer

Steven “Sam” S. Meyer, age 37, of Belmond, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond. Sam's life was a testament to his enduring love for his family, his passion for the great outdoors, and his commitment to bringing joy and laughter to those around him.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Sam's honor from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Clarmond Country Club, 1776 Page Avenue in Clarion, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Sam’s son, Zander Meyer, at 716 1st Street SE in Belmond, Iowa 50421, to whom he was a devoted father.

Born on February 13, 1987, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Steven “Sam” and Vicki (McGill) Meyer, he was the youngest of three. Sam was a lifelong resident of Belmond. He graduated from Belmond High School in 2005 and went on to work at Omnium in Hampton, later at Vestus in Bradford and in Williams and most recent Brock Industries in Sheffield. On June 1, 2013, he married Amber Heaberlin, sharing a love that brought forth laughter, adventure, and cherished moments.

Sam was a man of many passions, finding solace and excitement in hunting, fishing, camping, and riding four-wheelers. His love for the outdoors was only matched by his profound affection for spending quality time with his sons and daughter. Sam's sense of humor and his ability to make others happy were his gifts to the world. Known for his infectious laughter and not-so-great dancing skills, Sam lived to bring laughter to those around him. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, always putting others before himself.

Sam leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his parents, Sam and Vicki Meyer of Belmond; his son, Zander Meyer; sisters, Jennifer (Jeremy) Schlader of Cedar Falls and their children, Abigail, Caleb, and Burkley, and Kelly Meyer (Todd) of Somerset, Wisconsin and their fur baby Walter; his former wife, Amber Meyer and her children, Ian Forester and Cailee Henning; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, McGill and Meyer; aunts Rita and Annabelle; uncles Jack, Ray, and Ron; and cousin Devin.

Sam's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will forever reside in the memories we hold dear. As we gather to remember Sam, let us celebrate the joy he brought into our lives, the smiles he shared, and the love he spread. His legacy will continue to inspire us to live fully, love deeply, and laugh often.

Farewell, Sam. You may have left this world too soon, but your light will continue to shine in the hearts of those you touched.
