Pam Lewis

Pamela Kay Lewis was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was called to her heavenly home on August 11th, 2021, at the age of 66.

She was born to Vern & Esther Buhr on Feb. 14th, 1955, in Clarion, Iowa. She was very proud to have lived her entire life in Goldfield and was one of 9 children. She graduated from Goldfield, High School in 1973.

Pam’s first job was at the Golden Eagle Restaurant. This is where a young man named Ernie, noticed her, and offered to give her rides home from work. He soon became her best friend and soul mate. Pam was united in marriage to Ernest E. Lewis on May 18th, 1974. Together they were blessed with 3 boys. Pam had been working at the Clarion Care Center early in their marriage, but once she started having children, she stayed home to be a wife and mother. She always had a desire to care for people, and through the years she would work as a private caregiver to many people in their homes. Pam entered the family business at L & L service as the bookkeeper and running their engraving business as her children grew older. She spent many hours engraving trophies, plaques, & accountability tags for fire depts., local fairs, 4-H clubs, and car shows. She always loved attending Fire School every year where she developed friendships and connections that were very special to her. Being a part of her community was very important to Pam. She was a member and President of the Goldfield Jaycettes. She was also very active with the Goldfield Commercial Club & Boone River Riders Snowmobile Club. The Goldfield Fire Dept was also a huge part of her life. As the wife of the fire chief, for 20 years, Pam played a special role in organizing the annual omelet brunch.

Pam was a faithful woman who loved the Lord and was a lifetime member of the Goldfield Methodist Church. Her love for Christian Ed was very evident in all the ways she helped. She served as secretary of the Sunday School Program for many years and taught Sunday School with her husband. She made sure every grandchild received a children’s bible story book and was often found singing songs or reading them stories.

Pam enjoyed being outdoors, she loved camping, snowmobiling, bird watching, can hunting with her boys, and having a large garden. She found so much joy in all her vegetables she would grow each year. Pam had a love for garage sales, jigsaw puzzles, keeping an immaculate house, and feeding her family. Pam was always found spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family.

The simple things in life brought Pam great joy. She loved having family home for Christmas and always made sure everyone had a Christmas stocking filled with their favorite things. Even though she only birthed boys, she was blessed with all her girls later in life. Pam’s greatest joy were all her grandchildren. She was the best at playing cards, dressing up for Halloween, watching Disney movies while popping popcorn, making ice cream cones, and kicking grandpa out of the bed so they could sleep with her. And no one could make pancakes or a grilled cheese as good as Pam because she had her secret ingredient, Love, always in them.

Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her sons’ strong values and work ethic that they will carry with them always. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. As Pam would always say, “Well, that’s just the way it is!”

Pam is survived by her husband, Ernie Lewis; sons, Aaron Lewis (Rebecca) of Algona, Matt Lewis (Katie) of Goldfield and Adam Lewis of Goldfield; nine grandchildren: Cole, Sydney, Chase, Sullivan, Gavin, Alexis, Aleshia, Alaura and Ava; great-granddaughter, Gennovia; siblings: Weldon Buhr of Eagle Grove, Allan Buhr (Diana) of Spirit Lake, Bonnie Lester of Searcy, AR and Ivan Buhr of Jackson, MN; sisters-in-law, Cheral Buhr of Manning, Sheryl Buhr of Eagle Grove and Nancy (Lewis) Foster (Dan) of Madison, AL and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Ione, Wilson, and Phyllis Lewis; infant sister; brothers, Donald, Willie, Duane, and Dallas Buhr; brother-in-law, Duane Lewis; sister-in-law, Beth Buhr, and grandson, Will.
