Mary Anne Chapman was born to parents Harold Streuber and Irene Bartley on March 19, 1932 in Anaheim, California.

When Mary Anne was four years old, she was placed in an orphanage at the Saint Joseph Catholic orphanage in Dayton, Ohio. This is where Mary Anne learned to tap dance, cook, and sew. She also connected with her faith and often said “God only gives you what you can handle.” While in the orphanage she and the other children took many trips to Cincinnati to an amusement park and often went camping and had many picnics.

Mary Anne started school at Saint Joseph Catholic School, then continued her schooling at the Julienne Catholic High School. She graduated with the class of 1950.

Mary Anne stayed in Dayton until 1957 when she moved west to Iowa. This is where she met her husband Kenneth Chapman. On January 4, 1958, Kenneth Chapman and Mary Anne were married in Hudson. To this union, four children were born: Harold, Jeff, Chris and Mary Beth.

Mary Anne would always make time for her family. She was at every sporting event and was a Girl Scout leader. The family and she would go on camping trips all cross the United States. She wanted to make sure her family would see the world. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Mary Anne enjoyed reading mysteries from her favorite author Mary Higgins Clark, doing word search books, needle point stitching, and she loved the Chicago Cubs. Mary Anne was especially great at cooking and baking. She learned how to cook with anything and made the food stretch. She often made her famous ABC hamburger, raisin donuts for Christmas, and Spam hash brown patties. She also made cherry pie that the kids would help pick the cherries for. They would pick so many cherries that their fingers would remain stained as they went to school!  The cherry tree still stands today. During Christmas time with the grandchildren, Mary Anne would place her Christmas village out and it would often take three days to put up the three story village set.

Mary Anne was part of the Rosary group and part of the church circle at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Her faith was very strong. She was nice to everyone and would always stick up for those that needed it. That’s the type of person Mary Anne was.

Mary Anne is survived by her children, Jeff Chapman (Danna) of Boone, Chris Chapman (Pam) of Ankeny, Mary Beth Hammen (Edward) of Clarion; grandchildren Sarah, Cody Ray, Sara, Scott (Amber), Shane (Rhaea), Matthew, Samantha, and Meghan (Jeremiah); great grandchildren, Autumn, Destiny, Tanner, Alec, Aiden, Brielle, Wesley, and Wyatt.

Mary Anne is preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth Chapman, son Harold “Skip” Chapman, sister Patricia, and brother Peter.
