Laura Beenken

Laura J. Beenken, 77, of Clarion, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 201 3rd Avenue North East in Clarion, with Pastor Mike Gudka officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Laura Jane Wood was born January 15, 1944 to Alvin Levi and Laura Maud (Beal) Wood in Hampton. She was raised and educated in Hampton.

On February 1, 1964 Laura married Rennie Quandt. To this marriage a son, Alvin (Bud) Leroy Quandt, was born. Rennie passed away on June 2, 1965.

Laura was united in marriage to Roger Dean Beenken on March 28, 1967. To this union a daughter, Kimberly Diane Beenken, was born. They made their home in Hampton for the first three years of marriage. In October of 1970, Laura and Roger moved to Clarion, making it the place where they made their home and raised their children.

She was baptized in the Methodist faith and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion. Laura’s faith was very important to her.

She was a homemaker and ran a daycare in her home for many years with her last daycare kids being her grandchildren.

Laura had a knack for drawing and was especially talented in creating portraits. She also had a love of nature, especially bird watching and growing flowers. She passed those interests onto her children and grandchildren. Laura also enjoyed going to auctions and garage sales, taking day trips with family, and putting together puzzles. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Laura is survived by son Bud Quandt, his wife Troi and their daughters Brandi and Samantha; her daughter Kimberly Marker, her husband Timothy and their children Tyler (fiancée Emily) and Makena. She is also survived by her siblings Sarah Dolash, Bill Wood, and Ray Wood, along with many other relatives and friends.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, in 2014; her parents Alvin and Laura Wood; siblings: Alvin Wood, Jr., Theodore Wood, Robert Wood, Adelbert Wood, Donald Wood, and Mary Perkins; brother-in-law Keith Perkins and sisters-in-law Tonda Wood and Janice Wood.
