Joann S. (Richards) Olson

Joann S. (Richards) Olson, age 92, of Clarion passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.

Services will be held at a later date.

Joann Sue, daughter of Clarence and Mary (Franks) Richards, was born on August 22, 1932 near Dows. She grew up in and attended school in Dows.

Following high school, Joann was united in marriage to Dennis Olson at the methodist church in Dows.  Joann stayed at home to raise her three daughters, Karen, Becky, and Denise until they opened Lindsay Soft Water in 1959. The family owned and operated the business for 50 years. With Dennis’ passing in 1993, Joann continued to maintain the business until her retirement in 1998.

In her younger years, Joann enjoyed bowling league and traveling with Dennis. More recently, Joann enjoyed reading and volunteering at the hospital. Joann was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She followed all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events and loved spending time with them. Joann enjoyed the simple things in life. She was always cheerful to be around her family, worship the Lord, sit outside on a sunny day, drink a good cup of coffee, and more. Joann brought so much joy and happiness to those around her, and she will be greatly missed.

Joann is survived by her daughters Karen Schluttenhofer (Al Hennigar), Becky Lunde, and Denise (Todd) Foss; grandchildren Jason (Peggy) Schluttenhofer, Micki (Chad) Disney, Chris (Aimee) Lunde, Shea Foss, and Lisa (Damon) Jennings; great-grandchildren Emma, Calvin, Conner, Brennan, Dylan, Marc, Rilley (Chance), Nevan, Bo, Jagger, and Jamison; and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dennis in 1993; parents; siblings; and son-in-law Marc Lunde.
