Harvey Friesleben

     Harvey Dean Friesleben, the son of Hartley and Wilma (Haupt) Friesleben, was born August 7, 1942, in Belmond, Iowa.  He was Baptized on September 5, 1943, at St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond.  He was raised on an acreage by Goodell until he was 9 years old and moved with his family to a farm north of Goldfield in 1951.  Harvey was Confirmed on March 30, 1958, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick.  He attended Renwick Community School until sixth grade when the school districts changed and he then attended Goldfield Community School, graduating with the “Class of 1961”.  After high school, Harvey attended the American Institution of Business in Des Moines where he received his A.A.S. Degree in Accounting.   

     On January 28, 1968, Harvey was united in marriage to Darlene Malaise at the Woolstock United Methodist Church. This union was blessed with two sons, Todd and Jeff. Harvey worked for Globe Union in Fort Dodge for a short time and began farming with his father and twin brother in 1964. He and his brother continued farming together until they retired in 2014.

     Harvey was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served on several committees.  He also volunteered in his community in many capacities while living in the Goldfield area. He was a board member at W & H Coop and served on the Goldfield School Board.  Harvey loved old cars, visiting with friends over morning coffee at the Renwick Fastway, and attending his grandchildren’s activities.

     Harvey passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge at the age of 79 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Hartley and Wilma Friesleben and his father and mother-in-law, Emile “Bill” and Ruth Malaise.  

     Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Darlene Friesleben of Goldfield; two sons, Todd (Lisa) Friesleben of Atlantic and Jeffrey (Alison) Friesleben of Clarion; grandchildren: Halsey Bailey-Friesleben, Jonathon Friesleben, Alaina Friesleben, Sydney Friesleben and Dane Friesleben and twin brother, Harley (Diane) Friesleben of Renwick.

     Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick with Pastor Jim McColley.  Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to service time at the church.  Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.
