Gary Rosendahl

     Gary “Diesel” Lee Rosendahl was born to Edna Rosendahl on November 23, 1945, in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  He lived in rural Claire until the 4th grade and moved to Eagle Grove where he graduated from Eagle Grove High School with the “Class of 1964”.

     On April 13, 1968, Gary was united in marriage to Nancy Thompson at Hauge Lutheran Church in Goldfield.  They made their home in Eagle Grove and he worked for 47 years as a custom applicator and truck driver for Farmers Coop which became Gold-Eagle Coop. Diesel was always one of the first to work and last to leave every day.  

     Gary was a dedicated father never missing his children’s events.  Although he worked long hours, he always found ways to be in the auditorium or gym for each and every event.  He was a member of the Holmes Lutheran Church and served on the Wright County CERT Team, Eagle Grove Auxiliary Police Force and provided night security during the Wright County Fair for many years.  Diesel enjoyed camping, flowers, gardening and loved ice cream. Never passing up and sometimes even detouring out of his way to go to a Dairy Queen.   His kids will tell you he knew where every Dairy Queen was in the state of Iowa.

     Gary passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Unity Point Health in Fort Dodge at the age of 76 years.  He was preceded in death by his mother and stepdad, Edna and Howard Egemo; grandparents, Henry and Elsie Rosendahl and brothers-in-law, Jerry Bacon and Charles Kleveland. 

     Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nancy Rosendahl of Eagle Grove; three children: Troy (Anne) Rosendahl of Spencer, Tricia Rosendahl of Eagle Grove, and Todd (Heather) Rosendahl of Spirit Lake;  three grandchildren: Blake (Naomi) Rosendahl of Spencer, Mackenzie Rosendahl of West Des Moines, Caleb Rosendahl of Spirit Lake; two step-grandchildren: Sheldon Jones of Mason City, Brighton Jones of Spencer; his sister Sharon Bacon of Humboldt; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Donald and Ruby Thompson of Lehigh Acres, FL, Carol Kleveland of Forest City and Dale and Carol Thompson of Fort Dodge; aunt Geraldine Anderson of Fort Dodge along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Gary is also survived by his buddy and pet, Toby.

     Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July12, 2022, at Holmes Lutheran Church in Holmes.  Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Holmes Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Holmes Lutheran Cemetery in rural Holmes.
