#ChalkTheVote- Chalk art intended to inspire others to vote
An important day is fast approaching - Election Day. While COVID-19 has undoubtedly changed how this looks - from the way rallies and debates have been held, to an increase in early voting and voting by mail - what's most important is that you get out and vote, however you are most comfortable.
While we all know that you have to be at least 18 years or older to cast your choice, this year, there is a national campaign to get kids involved as well. While they can't cast their ballot, they can encourage you to cast yours. #ChalkTheVote, part of ParentsTogether, started this past Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020. Parents and kids across the country are being encouraged to decorate their streets and sidewalks with chalk art designed to inspire others to get out and vote on November 3...or send it in by mail now.
Wright County, let's get in on this national movement. Let our kids feel like they have made a difference this year. They know it's been a different kind of year with COVID, so let them see that they can make it different in a good way. The intention isn't to encourage people to vote Republican, Democratic, or Independent. The idea IS to encourage others to simply exercise their right to vote. Examples might include decorating the inside of a bubble word "VOTE" with stars and stripes. Draw a flag with Nov 3 under it. Use your imagination. Inspire others to take action.
If you do participate, please let us know at the Monitor. Email Bridget at news@wrightcountymonitor.com. We would love to come and capture the artist and his/her reminder to vote. ParentsTogether also invites you to post it to their social media accounts using #ChalkTheVote Tag @parentstogether for a chance to be featured on their page.
