Wyona L. (Hall) Denger

Wyona L. (Hall) Denger, 97, of Clarion passed away Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 608 2nd Avenue Northeast in Clarion, with Father Jerry Blake officiating.  Burial will be held at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with a Rosary and Scriptural Wake beginning at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Wyona Lucille Hall, daughter of Charles L. and Hilda L. (Shaw) Hall was born on April 20, 1927 in rural Kanawha. She lived in rural Woolstock on the River Farm and attended Troy #7 Country School for six years. Her family moved to Meservey, and she graduated in 1945. While in high school, Wyona played on the basketball team.

After graduation, Wyona went to Hamilton Business School in Mason City. She worked for City Hall and CPAs. 

She met her future husband on a blind date, which was the love of her life. Wyona was united in marriage to Faye Denger of Dows, on January 24, 1949 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. They made their home on a farm in rural Dows before moving to Armstrong for 16 years.

Faye and Wyona were involved with farming and livestock. They were blessed with six children and were active in 4-H and the Emmet County Fair. They attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and she was involved with Saint Ann’s Circle.

In 1969, Faye and Wyona purchased a farm north of Clarion. Wyona continued to help with farming, livestock, and raising her family. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion. She was very active in the church belonging to church circles, Alter Society, quilt making, Catholic Daughters, and taking communion to the homebound. Wyona was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary for 25 years. She delivered meals on wheels, served as a board member at the senior center, and was always ready for a bake sale!

Wyona was a very talented seamstress. Over the years, she sewed her children’s dresses, wedding dresses and attendant’s dresses, baptism gowns, and even doll clothes.

In 1992, Faye and Wyona moved into town. They enjoyed traveling to many places including, Branson, Australia, Hawaii, Alaska, and Norway. They enjoyed taking winter trips to California and Arizona. In her free time, Wyona loved working on her family genealogy for eight generations. 

Left to cherish her memory are her children Jennifer Kreitlow of Clarion, Candace (John) Sheehan of Clarion, Carmel Hammen of Clarion, Jaclyn (Merlin) Loux of Dows, Judy (Kelly) Thomas of Littleton, Colorado, and Larry Denger of St. Louis, Missouri; six grandchildren Todd (Gloria) Kreitlow of Pinehurst, North Carolina. Scott (Kim) Sheehan of Gettysburg, South Dakota, Joseph (Jennifer) Sheehan of Clarion, Rebecca (Aaron) Lewis of Algona, Nicholas (Haley) Loux of Rowan, and Matthew (Melissa) Loux of Rowan; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-greatgrandson; sisters-in-law Liz Hall of Des Moines and Jeanette Pruin of Sheffield; special niece Cathi Dollman of Rochester, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Hilda Hall; husband Faye in 2010; siblings Franklin “Buster” Hall, Constance (Chris) Binder, Charles Hall, Jerome Hall, and Sharon (Ed) Durreager; granddaughter Amanda Sheehan in 1980; great-grandson Will Lewis in 2012; and two sons-in-law Earl Hammen Jr. and Bruce Kreitlow.
