Allyn F. Christensen
Allyn F. Christensen, 90, of Clarion, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, with Pastor Craig Luttrell officiating. Burial will be in Mt Hope Cemetery, rural Dows.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Ewing Funeral Home in Clarion.
Allyn Franklin Christensen, son of Jens and Edna (Oleson) Christensen, was born on July 6, 1933 in Latimer. He grew up in the Latimer and Dows areas and attended school in Dows. In 1954, Allyn joined the US Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged in 1956.
On June 28, 1958, Allyn was united in marriage to June Van Gerpen. Allyn worked at Weavers Construction in Alden until moving to Clarion in 1963 where they raised their three daughters. Allyn worked on a hog farm until 1969 when he took a job at the school in Clarion. Allyn worked at the school for over 40 years before he retired.
In his younger years, Allyn enjoyed being outside hunting or gardening. He was often tinkering in his shed or basement or building something. He loved guns and restoring old things and watching westerns on TV.
Allyn is survived by his wife June Christensen of Clarion; daughters Volnetta (Jerry) Passehl, Melia (Jim) Thomas, and Stacie Christensen; grandchildren Kate, Emily, Nick, Cody, Sierra, and Junior; nine great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister Eleanor Tonderum; and numerous other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; twin brother Merlyn, brothers Lloyd and Volney; and sisters Helen, Alice, and Myrna.
