It was a party at the Wright County Courthouse last week as Emergency Management Coordinator and Sheriff’s Captain Jim Lester was given farewell. After 27 years in the Sheriff’s Department along with 11 years as Emergency Management Coordinator, Lester is moving on to a new opportunity.

“It was time for a change,” said Lester. “Some of the guys I’ve been working with weren’t even born when I started in ‘92.”

Taking a job as the Chief of Police in Washington, Iowa, Lester’s ‘retirement’ from Wright County will last exactly one day before he begins the next step of his career. After decades of working with and training officers, he is excited at the prospect of overseeing a crew of his own in Eastern Iowa.
