Well-known local resident celebrates his 100th birthday; Granny Shivvers honored

He thought it was just a St. Patrick’s Day Party, but Granville “Granny” Shivvers got quite the surprise on March 14th when he walked into the dining room at the Meadows Independent Living Facility. Many of the resident and staff members were indeed gathered, but it was not for a St. Patty’s Party. It was actually for his surprise birthday party!

Granny turned 100 years old on March 14th. Several Meadows residents were on hand to celebrate with him as well as his two children. His son Gary and his daughter-in-law Theresa came from Ankeny for the event, and his daughter Linda Calcari and her husband Steve traveled all the way from the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Granny also has dozens of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even a few great, great grandchildren.
