Phyllis Stupka
Phyllis Stupka, 99, of Clarion, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 7, 2023 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 608 2nd Avenue North East in Clarion, with Father Jerry Blake officiating. Burial will be held at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarion.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM with a Rosary and a Scriptural Wake Service beginning at 4:15 PM on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion.
Phyllis Joan (O’Neel) Stupka, the daughter of Carl and Grace (Mahoney) O’Neel, was born March 2, 1924 in Iowa Falls, Iowa. She attended country school in Lincoln Township before graduating from Clarion High school with the class of 1942.
After High School, Phyllis continued her education at St. Joseph College of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa becoming a Registered Nurse in 1945. She worked in Dr. Bird Hospital, the Belmond Hospital, Dr. Lott’s office and retiring as the Director of Nursing at the Community Memorial Hospital in 1984.
She was united in marriage to George A. Stupka on May 2, 1946. To this union, two sons were born, James and Paul. The couple raised their family in Clarion.
Phyllis was a faithful member of St. John’s Catholic Church where she volunteered many hours on various boards. She also was the first board and chair of Wright County Opportunities, which later became Krysilis, something she was very proud of.
She is survived by her son, Jim (Marilyn) Stupka of Mooresville, Indiana; grandchildren James Michael Caltrider, II, of Florence, South Carolina; Kristin (Shelton Cooper) O’Neal of Florence, South Carolina; Geoff Ehrendreich of Mooresville, Indiana; Greg (Jill) Ehrendreich of Chicago, Illinois; Anne (John) Sams of Oregon, Wisconsin; Sarah (Paul) Klitzke of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren James Michael Caltrider, III; Tanis Caltrider; Matthew (Emily) O’Neal; Nathan O’Neal; Ray O’Neal; Natalie (Blane Hopkins) O’Neal; Lucille Ehrendreich; Sam Ehrendreich; Nicholas Tolonen; Miles Tolonen; Caroline Sams; Noah Klitzke; and Emma Klitzke; along numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; her son, Paul; and older siblings Bert, LeRoy, and Arthur O’Neel.
Phyllis’ request was that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church.
