The Meinkes' immigration saga part 5: the return

It was May 30, 2013, five months since Miriam’s appeal for permanent residency was delayed.

He and his wife had spent the subsequent time on opposite sides of the U.S. – Mexico border as they waited for US Citizenship and Immigration Services (UCSIS) to process a waiver application.

Most of the people in the library were the young couple’s friends and family.

They had gathered at a Chuck Grassley “town hall meeting” event in the hopes of encouraging the long-serving Iowa senator to help expedite the Meinkes’ wait.

Regardless of the overall politics of immigration, the Meinkes regard the meeting with Grassley as the turning point in which the heretofore largely silent USCIS bureaucratic black box began making noise.

Read more about how Chuck Grassley helped the couple expediate the process of getting Miriam back to the United States and her reaction to being reunited with Anthony in the August 21 issue of the Wright County Monitor!
