Dennis Ray was born on October 20, 1944, the third son of Henry and Jennie (Pals) Boelman. He grew up on a farm and graduated in 1962 with the last class from Meservey Consolidated School District.
On October 5, 1968, Denny was united in marriage to Miriam Miller. One daughter, Michele, was born to this union. They made their home in Meservey.
While growing up, Denny would frequently go to the Raecker Chevrolet in Meservey. This being his favorite hangout. He was always observing and watching over a mechanic’s shoulder. When he was old enough, they put him to work washing and waxing all the new cars for “show day.”
After high school, Denny attended Hamilton’s Business College. Uncle Sam then drafted him into the Army and he served in Vietnam.
When he returned home from the Army, he was co-owner of D&H Auto. He then was a long-time dedicated service manager of McLaughlin Brothers Chevrolet. He was awarded three trips to Europe for his excellent service with Chevrolet. He drove semi for a period of time. After his retirement, he was with Pritchard’s of Belmond helping wherever needed. Denny took pride in having his vehicles looking nice and in good condition.
While living in Meservey, he was a member of the fire department and town council. He was a 58-year member of the Meservey American Legion. Denny was also a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Meservey.
Denny loved his family. He was always supportive of his granddaughter’s activities, and he taught them how to take care of their cars, perform simple maintenance and oil changes.
Dennis is survived by his wife Miriam of Belmond; daughter Michele (Matt) Lund of Clarion; granddaughters Sarah Lund of New Hampton and Megan Lund of Clarion; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Norman and Alvin Boelman.
