Cowgirls closing out season schedule with several wins

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity softball team has gotten on a bit of a roll at a good time as the season schedule draws to a close and regionals start. With last week’s action, they have now won four of their last six games.

On Monday, June 26 at Iowa Falls-Alden, they lost 3-1 to the Cadets. Their only run came in the fifth inning, as Megan Askelsen reached on a single then advanced on a fielder’s choice from Gabby Hackley. She scored on a hit to center field by Quinn Hansch. The team had five other baserunners during the game, with only two of them making it as far as second.

Emma Konvalinka went 3 for 3, with Askelsen, Emily Kapka and Hansch getting the only other hits. Hansch had the RBI. Sydney Terhark threw all six innings, giving up two earned runs on only three hits with two walks and four K’s.

On Tuesday, they traveled to Garner and defeated the Cardinals by a 13-3 margin.
