Cowboys score some runs, still couldn’t find wins in week

On Monday, June 25, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity baseball team hosted Iowa Falls-Alden and lost a close 6-5 contest to the Cadets in a game shortened to five innings due to weather. IF-A did most of their damage in the second, bringing four men across while the Cowboys managed two runs each in the fourth and fifth frames in trying to keep pace.

Zach Martin went 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Bryce Brinkman joined him at 2 for 3. Will Weidemann, Tanner Abbas and Tyler Stein all cranked out a single each, with Reed Abbas getting the other RBI and T. Abbas, Caleb Krueger, Stein, Carter Dietz and Cael Chase scoring the runs. Krueger swiped two bags, while also showing a good eye in getting two walks. T. Abbas and Stein drew one free pass each.

Stein took the loss on the bump, going four innings with just three earned runs allowed and making three K’s. Kain Nelson pitched an inning, giving up one earned with two strikeouts.

“Wish we could have finished it out over seven,” stated head skipper Nick Willwerth. “One bad inning cost us as we gave up a four spot in the second.”
