Cowboy wrestlers take third at Ames tournament

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity wrestling team took part in the 18-team Jack Mendenhall Invitational last Saturday in Ames. West Des Moines Valley took the team title with 181 points, followed in the top five by Ankeny at 158, C-G-D at 155, Cedar Rapids Kennedy at 144 and Cedar Rapids Prairie at 140.5.

Spencer Trenary (285) claimed the only title for the red and black, taking a 7-2 win over Vis of CR Kennedy in the finals. Remington Hanson (132) placed second, taking three straight wins by fall before suffering the same fate himself versus Braswell of CR Prairie in the finals. The team had a handful of fourth place entries, as Tyler Stein (113), Garrett Seaba (120), Keaton Wilson (145) and Colby Lienemann (195) all finished in that spot.
