Cowboy track & field take part in several meets

on Friday, April 27, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys track & field team participated in the South Hardin Invitational. Iowa Falls-Alden took the team title with 159 points, followed by South Hardin with 79, AGWSR with 63, C-G-D with 54 and CAL with 33.

Highlights included a first place for Ryan Watne in the shot put (just over 43 feet), along with gold medal finishes from the sprint med and shuttle hurdle relays.

On Saturday, April 28, they traveled to Eagle Grove for the rescheduled Umstead Relays. It was a co-ed make-up meet for the Lady Eagle Relays as well. Humboldt took the boys team title with 138 points, followed in order by: Lake Mills 64, C-G-D 63, Nashua-Plainfield 54, Eagle Grove 53, West Hancock 27, Forest City 19 and Newman Catholic 15.

“Watne has been performing on a consistent level, and had a PB at Garner (43’ 10.5”),” said head coach Craig Warnke. “Both the 4x2 and 4x4 have been putting in some solid performances. Unfortunately, Sam Urness broke his leg in the shuttle relay at Story City. It is a significant loss to the team in having one of our largest contributors out of the lineup, but I know his teammates will do what they can to make up the difference. He will be missed.”
