Cowboy golfers take second at NCC tourney

On Monday, May 7, Iowa Falls-Alden hosted the NCC boys golf tournament at Fort Dodge Country Club. Clear Lake took the team title with 316 total strokes, followed by the Cowboys less than 20 behind with a 333 total. Following them in order were: Humboldt 341, Webster City 350, Iowa Falls-Alden 354, St.

Edmond 358, Algona 365 and Hampton-Dumont 428. For the Cowboys, Zach Martin finished second overall with rounds of 36 and 39 for an 18-hole 75 total. The rest scored like this: Dalton Neshiem 42-40 for 82 (8th); Blake Jackson 41-46 for 87 14th); Alec Martin 46-43 for 89 18th); Sam Johnson 46-48 for 94 (29th); Will Weidemann 54-58 for 112 (45th). “It was a solid day for us,” said coach Pat O’Brien.

“We ended in the same placement we did for the regular season play. Clear Lake was better than we were. Both Zach and Dalton earned all-conference honors. Solid scores from Blake and Alec rounded off the day. We have relied on the two at the top to be consistent, and then two of the next four to come through and that formula has worked most of the season. We would like to get it all working together to take into the postseason. If we can do that, who knows where that could take us.”
