Cardinals eliminate Cowboys from postseason

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity boys basketball team saw a great district tournament run end at the hands of rated Garner-Hayfield/Ventura last Tuesday night in Forest City in a 67-48 Cardinal win. The Cowboys were hanging right with them at 27-25 at halftime, only to have the Cardinals exploded out to a 24 points to nine third quarter advantage to pretty much put it away.

Rhett Darland pumped in 11 points including three bombs from long range. Sam Urness scored 10 points with two treys. Avery Harrington scored eight points, Marco Duran seven points, Will Weidemann and Zack Leist four points each and Ryan Darland and Zach Martin two points apiece. Rhett ripped down six boards, with Weidemann and Leist getting four each. Harrington grabbed three caroms and Jacob O’Connor two, while Ryan, Duran, Martin and Bryce Tegtmeyer all finished with one each.

"I was proud of our crowd support, from our parents to our students on the sportsmanship they displayed," stated head coach Brandon Lantzky. "Our kids played hard and never gave up. This has been a great season and I look forward to taking the next steps forward with these kids.”
