With the state’s Democratic caucuses only months away on February 3, Iowa has become its typical hotbed of political activity. The various Democratic presidential candidates in the race have been crisscrossing the state in droves for town hall meetings, meet and greets and roundtables. Understandably, most of these campaign stops occur in the Iowa’s population centers like Des Moines, Fort Dodge or Mason City. However, last week, Wright County finally got some attention from one Midwestern candidate.

            While the Clarion Rotary Club takes part in many service projects, both local and international, in December, they work on a special project for Christmastime: their Secret Santa project in cooperation with local law enforcement.

            This year, as they have in the past, the Rotary will be raising money to split between the Sheriff’s office and the Clarion Police Department, who divide it in envelopes for the officers and deputies to hand out, typically looking for people they know could use a little help around the holidays.

The C-G-D Peer Helpers are at it again.  The group recently presented a check for $1200 to the Brushy Creek Honor Flight to send two Wright County veterans on the Washington D.C. trip next year. The Peer Helpers raise the money through dances, concessions, selling butter braids, donations and more.  Julie Reed, who helps organize the flight for Wright County, said about the three middle schoolers who presented the donation, “We’re so proud of you, and you should be proud of yourselves.” The veterans who received the donation on behalf of the Honor Flight were also very impressed.
