Naomi A. Post

Naomi A. (Carlson) Post of Zumbrota, Minnesota (formerly of Clarion and Boone, Iowa) passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at Zumbrota Care Center at the age of 93.

Naomi Adelheide Carlson was born February 14, 1929 in a farm house near Chetek, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Sigurd A. Carlson and Lillian Gertrude (Olson) Carlson and was next to the youngest of ten siblings. Naomi graduated from Chetek High School in 1946 and was nicknamed “Sophisticated Lady” in her high school yearbook, the Pine Cone.

On June 19, 1948, Naomi married Robert Ward Post at the Dovre Lutheran Church in Dovre, Wisconsin. Together, they had three children and settled in Boone, Iowa for more than 50 years. Along with raising her family, Naomi managed a successful 30-year career at Citizens National Bank (currently U.S. Bank) in Boone – retiring in 1994. She often spoke fondly of the many friendships she made with co-workers and customers. Naomi was also active in the community as a member of Boone Business Women and the Business and Professional Women (BPW) organizations. Naomi was a long-time member of Grace Episcopal Church serving on the Altar Guild and St. Catherine Guild.

After enjoying many years of retirement in Boone, in 2008 the couple moved to The Meadows – an independent living facility – in Clarion, Iowa. They enjoyed meeting new people and being closer to their daughter, Pam. Naomi continued to live at The Meadows after her husband passed away (2011), eventually moving into a lovely nursing home in Zumbrota, Minnesota near her son, Ron, in 2016. She was quite happy and content living at Zumbrota Care Center, and was so excited to be crowned their Valentine Queen on her birthday this past year!

Family and friends remember Naomi as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother – always ready with a warm smile, big hug, and encouraging words. She was a sweet, gentle soul and had such a great sense of humor. In her later years, Naomi loved word searches and jumbles, jigsaw puzzles, reading, and was a fierce competitor in Chinese checkers – just ask the grandkids!!

Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, of 63 years, her parents, and nine siblings: Sigrid Carlson, Iduna Holter, Mathilda (Tilla) Swanson, Agnes Anderson, Esther Ewing, Christian Carlson, Ruth Anderson, Martin Carlson, and Dorothy Ostlie.

She is survived by her children: Ronald (Carol) Post of Rochester, MN, Bradley (Sandra) Post of Bradbury, NSW, Australia, and Pamela (Scott Stecher) Bradshaw of Clarion, IA; grandchildren: Ryan (Tanya) Post of Sequin, TX, Jason (Katie) Post of Rochester, MN, Michael (Julia) Post of Menangle, NSW, Australia, Alexis (Benjamin) Martin, of Woronora, NSW, Australia, Katie (Ty) Patton of Des Moines, IA, Clark Bradshaw of Chicago, IL, Becky (Bob) Groody of Columbus, OH, and Lisa (Philip Carlson) Bradshaw of Gahanna, OH; great-grandchildren: Justin, Julie, Leah, Kalen, Ethan, William, Olivia, Toby, Finley, Savannah, Charlie, Gene, Quinn, Giselle, and Carson; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is being planned for next spring/summer, followed by inurnment of Naomi and Bob’s ashes in Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone, Iowa.
